Amazon EU introduces the display of sales in search results

September 25, 2023

Amazon continues to improve the experience of its users and, after the launch of the same feature in the United States, has also introduced in Europe - for the moment as a beta version - the display of the number of sales of products in search results.

This new feature is a great help for users who want to have a better idea of the success of a product on the market.

Concerning data submission, Amazon rounds the number of sales according to two criteria:

  • For products with sales of more than 1000, rounding is carried out to the nearest thousand (for example 2000+);
  • For products with sales of less than 1000, the rounding is 100 (for example 600+).

It is important to note that the sales displayed refer to the single child ASIN and not to the entire product family: this means that different variants of a product (e.g. colour, size, etc.) will show different numbers, allowing a more accurate benchmarking among competitors.

N.B. Sometimes, instead of the words relative to purchases, one relative to the visualizations is shown. The values shown follow the logic of those related to purchases. Currently, it is not clear the criteria to show one or another.

If this new feature were to pass the test period, it would give sellers a unique opportunity to analyze the market and monitor the performance of their products and those of their competitors. It might be a good time to review your strategies and make the most of the potential offered by this new feature, such as a more efficient allocation of your advertising budget.

Update - September 2023

Last week, Amazon officially announced that it is now a new permanent feature on the search results! According to Amazon, the so-called Sales Trend feature will assist customers in distinguishing products within Amazon's extensive inventory by offering a rough estimate of how many customers have bought a particular product in the recent past.
